Our Outdoor Living Approach

Outdoor spaces that handle Portland rain.

Every outdoor project starts with water. We set drainage slope, subgrade prep, and material compatibility before surface work begins so your hardscape performs through Portland winters without shifting or pooling.

Use priorities, access patterns, and phasing are defined upfront. You see material options from completed projects before scope is locked.

Common Questions

Outdoor Living & Hardscaping FAQ

01Can outdoor hardscaping be phased?

Yes. We phase outdoor scope by area or priority. Drainage and subgrade work go first, then surface hardscape can be added in later phases without rework.

02Do drainage issues need to be fixed before hardscape?

Yes in most cases. Installing hardscape over poor drainage leads to settling, pooling, and premature failure. We correct drainage as part of subgrade prep.

03Do outdoor hardscape projects require permits in Portland?

Paver walkways and patios at grade typically do not require permits. Retaining walls over 4 feet, structures with footings, and work near setback lines may trigger permits.

04How long does a hardscape project take?

A paver walkway or small patio runs 1 to 2 weeks. Full yard hardscape with grading, drainage, and multiple zones typically takes 3 to 6 weeks.

05What materials hold up best in Portland weather?

Concrete pavers, natural stone, and poured concrete perform well in Portland rain. Material choice depends on use, drainage, budget, and aesthetic preference.
